No winter babies this year - they wouldn't have liked all that dreadful rain anyway!
Whilst unbelievably hard work, each litter has to be enjoyable, getting such pleasure from rearing the next generation of 'new hopefuls' gives us the desire to keep on going, when others may have given up.
As we already mention in our exerts onPoppy's litter, our breeding lines are highly sought after and our proven track record of the UK's Top Irish Setter Breeder for some 12 years now, affords us a great demand for our puppies. Mother Nature is heavily in charge in spite of what we may try to do. Our previous litter born in November of last year only contained 4 puppies, so we mated Poppy and then of course Daphne came in season a few days later. Not sure if Poppy was in whelp, we decided the best option was to mate Daphne too and perhaps one of them might have some babies to help us get many of our lovely new owners a new family member. Of course we never thought for a moment they would both have numbers in double figures as their respective scans had said 7 or 8 each. How about 13 and 11 each instead!!
Daphne is almost three years old and is having her first litter. A nice substantial bitch she is from the D'YA litter we had in June of 2015 and is the litter sister to Marita Bott's famous boy SH CH GWENDARIFF DYA KNOW MY NAME BY BARDONHILL (Maxim). Maxim is the youngest Champion we have ever bred - we are truly thrilled for the success he and Marita are having together. He is pictured here winning Group 2 at Darlington under Mrs Sylvia Bunting.
Daphne, GWENDARIFF D'YA WANNA KISS, lives with her owner Debs in Huddersfield but has returned here to her birth place to have her own new babies, all under the guise and expertise we have here at Gwendariff. Totalling 11, 6 boys and 5 girls, Daphne is enjoying her time as a mummy. She, like her friend Poppy has really enjoyed having the puppies. She is a first class mother, so diligent and attentive to their every need from the very start. Always aware of every sound or noise the pups would make she soon had them organised and was constantly washing and keeping them clean. A real natural, I felt she really was in her element!
Daphne is kind, gentle and very trusting indeed. She is so friendly and is happy to show her pups off to anyone who might care to visit! sitting as proud as a peacock when the pups are being swooned over. Daphne has only been shown lightly but has many qualities to offer. Her dark coat and great spring of rib, her excellent bone and wide powerful hindquarters or her super forehand and pleasing topline are all her strong points. With a very soft gentle expression through her dark eyes and raised brows she has such a good appeal.
Her babies weighed in well.... most sizing up around a pound or 14 ounces at birth. She continues to do them well and gives much of herself to them in every way. They are rather advanced already for their age and are mentally astute already as I write at just over 3 weeks with eyes and ears well open and already eating some solids every day. To watch them play and interact as they notice each other now is most delightful.
The suitor we decided upon was Joe, GWENDARIFF I'M COMIN OUT JW.
Although we did breed Joe he is not connected to our original lines really in any way. His father, SH CH & IR SH CH NORTHAMBER JUST CAUSE FOR GLENAVNA JW (Jamie) has been Best of Breed at Crufts on three consecutive occasions from 2009 - 2011.
Jamie has the most superb temperament to go alongside his very definite good looks! This dog, we have used already 4 times. We find his lineage works well with ours and we have generally been quite happy with the babies he has helped produce for us over the years. Joe's mother is a fully Swedish bred girl, again coming from lines I am familiar with and who seem to work nicely with our kennel. Kikki was born in Sweden and came to live with us here at Gwendariff when she was four months old. She loves attention but her biggest joy is free running in the fields. We had the best of intentions to show her but when we found she wasn't the best of travellers we felt she could just stay home instead - we just couldn't put her through those journeys to UK and back if she was unhappy. Our dogs are family pets first and if they happen to look good and enjoy it then we see how they take to the show ring.
Joe lives in Derbyshire with his owners Lynn & Gaye and has already won extremely well for them. He is a young dog of around about 20 months but already showing signs of having the attitude and confirmation to get a 'second look' from many of the judges. His Junior Warrant came relatively quickly despite at times, his naughty antics in his urge to please mummy Lynn. He has an abundance of coat and we believe will turn into a very handsome boy. For me personally, I absolutely love him - his headpiece is rather special too.
Time will tell if we chose the right combination - but for now at 3 weeks old the babes are looking chunky, well boned and with super little scunchy faces. All are doing really well, are strong, healthy and full of vitality. Mother Nature is in charge so I hope she continues to be kind to us as we get to the fun and exciting stage of growing these little darlings in preparation for the next stage of life with their new families.
If you have only read about Daphne's litter and did not get any information about how to move forward with the next stage of any potential enquiry, might I suggest you return to Poppy's Puppy Page and read from the Section called About Us. Here there is further information which we believe will help give you a further insight into how we do things here at Gwendariff. We hope this will also give you confidence that our process and procedure is designed to make the Gwendariff Puppy Experience something that you and your family will enjoy for many years to come.
We welcome genuine, loving and forever homes to evaluate for Daphne and Joes babies. Our contact details can be found below.
